Press Release MESC Annual Conference 2021

The Ministry of Education, Sports and Culture (MESC) will hold its Annual Teachers Conference next week from Wednesday 20 to Friday 22 January 2021 at the Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi (TATTE) Conference Centre.

The Conference will start with a Thanksgiving Service on Sunday 17 January at 5pm, at the Maota Tatalo i Vaea.  The opening of the conference will be on Wednesday 20 January at 9 am. The programs of the following two days include an induction program for new principals, vice-principals and teachers. As well as online training for selected teachers.   

The theme of the Annual Teacher’s Conference and for the whole of the Academic year 2021 is “Learning today, Leading tomorrow”. 

Wednesday’s program will have different presentations highlighting the challenges, opportunities and achievements of the last two School Years 2019 and 2020.  It also provides opportunity for participants to discuss and share best practices that ensure what students are learning today in the classroom continue to be relevant in today’s world.  Hon. Loau Solamalemalo Keneti, Minister of Education, Sports and Culture will deliver the Keynote Speech to open this year’s deliberations with Afioga Salausa John Ah Ching, Associate Minister of Women, Community and Social Development’s as the guest speaker.

The CEO, Afamasaga Dr Karoline Afamasaga-Fuata’i will present a stimulating overview to date, of achievements and challenges in national assessments and national examinations, from primary through to secondary level.  Samoa’s performance in the PILNA – a regional assessment – will also add to the CEO’s synthesis of national results, targets and goals in its collaborative and strategic move forward.

The second and third days of the conference will focus on strengthening teachers’ skills, knowledge and understanding in using online resources to enrich the teaching and learning in the classroom.   

The Conference program this year is open to Principals and Vice Principals of Government, Mission and Private schools only.
