The Government of Japan under its Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Project (GGP) continued to donate and support various developments in our country. Two new school buildings were officially opened this month.
Faleatiu Primary School in the first week of March celebrated their new reconstructed school building at a cost of ST$223,362.05 spent on new classroom floors with new tiles, the ceilings and lighting fixtures as well as the new staff room, principal’s office, the library, computer lab and the new toilet block.
The Minister of Education Sports and Culture Honourable Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio was the keynote speaker and he congratulated the villages of Faleatiu-Uta and Tuvao for their hard work and efforts to provide a much better school environment for the future of the village.
H.E Ambassador of Japan to Samoa Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki emphasized on the Japanese government’s grants and assistance for the government and people of Samoa and its development, ensuring that all children have access to quality education especially in the rural areas. Member of Parliament of the constituency of Aana Alofi No.3 also the Minister of Communications Information Technology, his Hon Afamasaga Lepuia’i Rico Tupai offered his blessings before cutting the ribbon to officiate the opening of the Faleatiu primary school building, which will accommodate 150 students with 4 teachers.
Recently this week, the village of Satuimalufilufi Primary school also celebrated their new school building at the special handover by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Samoa, H.E. Maugaoleatuolo Shinya Aoki in the presence of the Honourable Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, Honourable Minister of Education Sports and Culture, Loau Solamalemalo Keneti Sio and Honourable Afamasaga Lepuiai Rico Tupai, the president of the school committee. Alo present were the villagers, students, teachers and parents.
The usual advice by his Honorable Prime Minister, Afioga Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi in his Keynote Address, is to make good use of the facilities by sending children to school and the school committee to maintain. He also acknowledged with gratitude the ongoing assistance of the government of Japan to our country not only in the developing of Education but also to the health and infrastructure.
The total cost of SAT421, 914 assisted Satuimnalufilufi’s school committee with the reconstruction of 8 classrooms, the staffroom, and the library and computer room as well as the toilet block and the hall. These will be utilized by 316 students and 7 teachers.
Both village school buildings had been destroyed from cyclones over the past years.
