2016 National S.P.E.L.L Assessment Results Release
The 2016 National Samoa Primary Education Literacy Levels (SPELL) assessment results were released on Tuesday 4th April 2017 to all Primary schools in the country. The SPELL assessments are diagnostic tests administered annually at Year 4 and Year 6 in the areas of language literacy (English and Samoan) and numeracy.
Nationally, a total of 9,022 children were tested. The workshop was conducted at the NUS Falesamoa for all Primary school Principals. The purpose of the workshop was to familiarise principals with the different reports which would assist with targeted planning at the school level as well as, most importantly, to help the classroom teacher plan and target student’s areas of learning difficulties.
Overall many Principals were very happy with the level of reporting received and felt confident that they would be able to use these at the school and classroom level to improve student learning.
SSC & SSLC Certification
New to the reporting of the Samoa School Certificate (SSC) and the Samoa Secondary Leaving Certificate (SSLC) results, is the provision of a student package. Unlike previous years where a student was given a Final Results notice and a Certificate, the Ministry’s stance in going Outcomes Based has meant the provision of reports which contribute to informing a student’s understanding of how well they did in the exam. These reports include an overall summary transcript and an individual item (question) analysis of each exam paper they sat. These reports are made available for the information of parents and students and may help to provide options for a student’s immediate and/or long term future.
The student packages for the 2016 SSC will be released by Friday 07 April and may be uplifted directly from colleges. Students who sat the 2016 SSLC may uplift their student package from the Assessment and Examinations Division at MESC.
